Madeley Court Sports Centre closes its doors for the last time today with new leisure facilities at the Abraham Darby Sports and Learning Community set to open on January 9.

Telford Snowboard and Ski Centre which is located on the Madeley Court site will remain open for business as usual.

Special arrangements have been made by the Council to ensure that customers and Aspirations members can still access sports and leisure facilities during the intervening three week period.

This includes use of other leisure centres such as Oakengates Leisure Centre, Stirchley Recreation Centre and the fitness suite at Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre.

Arrangements have also been made with Hadley Learning Community for Aspirations members to use their swimming pool free of charge from December 19 to January 8.

To mark the opening of the new Abraham Darby Sports & Leisure Centre, members of Aspirations health and fitness are invited to a special preview weekend between 10am and 4pm on January 7 and 8.

Members are welcome to bring a guest who will benefit from discounted membership deals for this weekend only.

Trained staff will be on hand through the weekend of 7 and 8 January to give Aspirations members and their guests a tour of the new facilities, which include a state of the art whole life fitness suite, a 25 metre swimming pool with a moveable height floor, sports hall and an aerobics studio.

Councillor Arnold England, cabinet member for Leisure and Well-being, said: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the transition to the new leisure facilities at the Abraham Darby site.

“However we are confident that users will be delighted with the new facilities and hope that they will take the opportunity of visiting the centre during the preview weekend on January 7 and 8.”
