Man arrested on suspicion of rape in Wellington

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape as part of an investigation into a serious sexual offence in Wellington on Friday.

An 18 year-old man was arrested by officers this morning and is currently helping police with their inquiries.

The incident was alleged to have happened on the platform at Wellington Railway Station some time between 1am and 2.45am on Friday.

A further assault allegedly took place between Albert Road, the footbridge over Whitchurch Drive and then on another footpath, which leads to the Leegomery estate near to Grainger Drive.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "An 18 year-old man was arrested this morning on suspicion of rape.

"He was brought to Malinsgate Police Station for questioning, where he currently remains."
