Look out for your neighbours, Says Shropshire's senior detective
Shropshire's senior detective has urged people to be on "red alert", reporting any suspicious activity they see at neighbours' homes.
"I want householders to be good neighbours by reporting any strange goings-on at or near homes," said Detective Chief Inspector Alan Edwards.
He issued the plea today following a burglary at a home in Cunningham Way on the Herongate estate in Shrewsbury.
"Thieves broke in during the daytime yesterday and while inside closed the lounge curtains from at least 3pm onwards. They also placed the door security chain from the inside to stop anyone coming in while they were searching the property.
"When homes are empty while people are working or otherwise away, it really is important that neighbours keep a look-out and report anything which strikes them as unusual as odd".
DCI Edwards urged people to follow their instincts and either call on a neighbour to check everything was in order, or contact the police on the 101 non-emergency number.
"If you think something might be going on, then don't hesitate to contact the police. In yesterday's burglary, the occupants never close the curtains during the day."
Thieves broke into the property between 10am and 6pm by forcing a window. After searching rooms they made off with property and cash, including Thai jewellery, watches and ipods.
Contact Shrewsbury police station by dialling 101 if you can help, or call the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
