Police in Shropshire have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 23-year-old man.

Man dies following Shrewsbury stabbing

The man, known locally as Scott Cooke was pronounced dead at 6.55pm last night, shortly after arriving at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Mr Cooke was taken to hospital following a dispute involving around 10 to 20 young men at the Monkmoor Recreation Ground in Shrewsbury at around 6pm last night.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Andrews said today: "I can confirm three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder."

One man was arrested at an address near Shrewsbury last night. A second man was arrested in Shrewsbury at around 4.30am today and a third man was detained at 7.45am in Telford.

The three suspects, all in their twenties, are being questioned in custody at Shrewsbury and Telford police stations.

Witnesses are urged to contact the police as a matter of urgency by calling 101. Police say it is vitally important anyone present at the recreation ground comes forward without delay.

A number of witnesses present at the incident have already spoken to police but those who were present during this disturbance are urged to contact Shrewsbury police station on 101 rather than the police going to them in the coming days.

A Home Office pathologist is expected to carryout a post mortem later today.
