Three charged with the murder of 23-year-old Shrewsbury man

The three men all aged 24 will appear before a special sitting of Telford magistrates at 10am tomorrow.

They were arrested following the stabbing of Mr Cooke at the Monkmoor Recreation Ground in Shrewsbury just after 6pm on Tuesday.

They are also jointly charged with burglary on Tuesday of a home in Abbotts Road, Monkmoor attempting to steal property when a person at the address was subjected to violence.

Mr Cooke was pronounced dead at 6.55pm on Tuesday, shortly after arriving at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. A post mortem showed he died from stab wounds.

Four other men arrested in connection with the incident have been given conditional police bail while inquiries continue.

Up to 20 young men were involved in a confrontation at the recreation ground during which Mr Cooke was injured.

Police are continuing their investigation and have renewed an appeal for witnesses to contact Shrewsbury police station on the non-emergency 101 number.

They particularly want to hear from anyone who was present during the incident. A number of people have already come forward.
