Pupils at Woodlands Primary are set to start the New Year in style when their new school, part of the £35m Abraham Darby site, opens its doors on Monday 9 January.

To mark the occasion, an opening ceremony will take place on Friday 6 January, 2-4pm at the new Woodlands Primary School. Special guests have been invited by the school to take the grand tour of the new building and view the state of the art facilities and modern, hi-tech learning environments.

The new school has the capacity for 460 children from ages three to 11 years. Pupils attending the school will benefit from 12 classrooms and integrated nursery and reception unit for 90 children.

Woodlands Primary School pupils will also be able to take full advantage of the on site leisure facilities which include a brand new whole life fitness suite, a 25 metre swimming pool with a moveable height floor, sports hall and an aerobics studio. These facilities will be open to the public from Monday 9 January.

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “I am pleased that we are able to start the New Year with some very good news; that both the new Woodlands Primary School and Abraham Darby Sports & Leisure Centre will be opening on schedule.

“I know that both staff and pupils are very excited about their move in to the new buildings and I look forward to taking the grand tour of the facilities on Friday.”

John Demmerling, head teacher of Woodlands Primary School, said: “My staff and pupils are delighted to be moving in and we look forward to welcoming our children back into our exciting new learning environment designed to meet the specific needs of our children now and for the future”.
