Telford assault being treated as rape investigation
Police in Telford have today confirmed they are now treating a serious assault that occurred in St Georges just before Christmas as a rape investigation.

As a 22-year-old woman made her way along the footpath between The Nabb and Tranters Row between 10am and 1pm on Friday 23 December 2011 she became aware of an unknown man following her. Without warning the man grabbed her from behind, pushed her against a fence and then subjected her to a serious sexual assault.
As a result of this assault, which is now being investigated as a rape, the victim suffered a number of injuries including a broken wrist as she attempted to defend herself. Following the assault the offender fled the scene on foot.
A police spokesman said:
"Officers investigating this incident have confirmed that it is now a rape enquiry. They would therefore like to reinvigorate their appeal for help from the public as they attempt to identify the man responsible for the attack.
"An enormous amount of work has been done on this case so far - including a significant number of interviews with the victim - and it is as a result of this work that the offence has been reclassified as a rape.
"The offender police are looking for is described as being white, aged in his 20s, around 6ft tall and as having a ‘skinny' build, while the victim is described as being predominately dressed in black at the time the offence occurred.
"Anyone who believes they may have information about this incident, especially anyone who believes they may have seen the offender or the victim at around the time of the assault, is asked to call officers in Telford on 0300 333 3000.
"Alternatively, please remember that Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather leave information without getting directly involved yourself."
