Teenage girl assaulted in Wellington

Sometime between 8pm and 8.45pm on Sunday, as the victim - a 17-year-old girl - walked along Tan Bank in the area between the Dhaka Indian restaurant and Whispers nightclub, she was approached by two unknown men.

Without speaking to her, one of the men grabbed her round the neck from behind and then the second man struck her hard in the face.

Thankfully, before the incident escalated, the victim managed to free herself from the grasp of the men and run home and tell her father what had happened.

The victim's father immediately called the police to report this incident.

A police spokesman said: "Although the victim suffered only a small scratch and minor bruising to the right side of her head as a result of this incident she has been left very shaken by it. She has no idea why the two men targeted her.

"The victim did not see the man that grabbed her round the neck but she has been able to provide a description of the man that struck her. He is described as being white, around 5ft 11inches and as wearing a grey top.
