Police officers in Telford are investigating following an assault in Wellington.

Police Appeal after man dragged into street and attacked in Wellington

The incident occurred on Victoria Avenue on Sunday 8 January.

Sometime between 5.30pm and 7pm, the victim - a 41-year-old - heard a knock on his front door and went to answer. On opening the door he was confronted by a man who dragged him out into the street and started to punch and kick him.

The victim fell to floor during the assault and the man continued to strike him while he lay on the ground.

On at least one occasion the victim attempted to run away from his attacker, but the attacker grabbed hold of him and continued the assault.

When the assault eventually finished the victim managed to walk home, but two days later he was forced to attend hospital to have his injuries looked at. The victim ended up spending three days in hospital receiving treatment for stomach, kidney and arm injuries.

Once he had been discharged from hospital the victim reported the incident to the police. Officers have now launched an investigation into the attack.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "This was a particularly nasty and sustained assault, which resulted in the victim having to stay in hospital for a number of days.

"The assault took place outside in Victoria Avenue and lasted for a number of minutes.

"Police are eager to trace witnesses and we would urge anyone who saw or heard anything that could help Police with their enquiries to come forward."

Anyone with information about the incident, or who believes they may know who's responsible, is asked to contact investigating officers on 0300 333 3000. Alternatively Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
