Ambulance crews had the tricky job today of reaching a woman who had fallen from her horse in woodland on The Wrekin.

Horse rider injured on The Wrekin

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to a track near Bank Farm shortly before 10.25am.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “A gamekeeper in his 4x4 helped crews find the horse rider.

“He took the Midlands Air Ambulance doctor in his own 4x4 to the patient, through a padlocked gate for which he had the key.

“While the doctor assessed and treated the patient the gamekeeper went back to the rapid response vehicle to guide in the paramedic driving it.

“The woman who had briefly been knocked unconscious but otherwise didn’t appear to have any injuries was then taken in the rapid response vehicle to the waiting ambulance which, in turn, took her to Princess Royal Hospital.

“We are very grateful to this man for his help.”

An ambulance crew, a 4x4 rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with on-board doctor attended.
