Police are investigating an incident where planks of wood holding six-inch nails have been left on farmland near Shrewsbury. They believe it may be an attempt to sabotage farm vehicles.

Police investigate farmland incident near Shrewsbury

An appeal for information has now been issued about the disturbing incident at Hookagate where planks containing protruding nails have been discovered in several farm fields.

The investigating officer, Police Constable Jon Summerfield, said: "Over the past few weeks, someone has been placing planks of wood with six-inch nails driven into them at various places in fields in the Hookagate area. The wood is being buried in the ground leaving the nails just showing above the surface.

"They have been placed on the edge of fields where tractors drive and members of the public walk. There have been four or five planks in total, each about two feet long.

"The Local Policing Team has been making enquiries and will continue to investigate. I am appealing for any information which might help identify the offender. Contact the Pontesbury and district Local Policing Team on the non-emergency 101 number, or the anonymous Crimestoppers independent charity on 0800 555 111."

He added: "This is clearly an irresponsible and dangerous act, putting people and livestock at risk of injury as well as possibly causing damage to farm machinery."
