The Wrekin Housing Trust’s sixth annual conference for tenants took place on Saturday and was hailed ‘the best one yet’.

More than 60 tenants attended the event, themed ‘Future Reform for Tenants’ at the Trust’s offices at Old Park.

Tenants were welcomed to the event by Chair of the Trust Anne Ward, before being given the opportunity to attend workshops covering the issues raised by Welfare Benefit Reforms and a presentation from the National Youth Group about homelessness. This year’s key speakers included David Wright MP and Raphael Runco, Deputy Housing Ombudsman.

Tenants were entertained by the Abraham Derby School band who played music during lunch, when tenants also had the chance to meet and chat with members of staff.

Trust tenants Mr & Mrs Parker of Hadley said of the conference: “We were really impressed with the way the whole day had been organised and feel that we’ve learnt a lot from it. It was a great chance to meet other Trust tenants who we wouldn’t normally have the chance to talk to.”

David Wright MP, who spoke on the national and local economic, housing situation, welfare benefit reforms and partnership working, commented on the event: “It was a pleasure to attend today’s event. Everybody seemed genuinely interested in the subjects being discussed and I enjoyed meeting everyone.”

The Trust’s annual tenants’ conferences offer tenants the opportunity to get together and learn what is happening in the world of housing, meet staff members and those from other tenant groups and local agencies.

This year’s event was kindly sponsored by Travis Perkins, Shifnal Environmental Services and DMW.
