Radio presenter Neil Bentley will say a final farewell to Shropshire listeners on Friday 3rd February as he hosts his final breakfast show on The Severn.

Shropshire radio presenter leaves the airwaves

After starting his radio career with MNA Broadcasting nearly 12 years ago on the then named 107.4 Telford FM, Neil has gone from strength to strength becoming an integral part of the group’s development as they launched two more radio stations; 107.2 The Wyre serving Kidderminster and 106.5 & 107.1 The Severn for Shrewsbury and Oswestry.

27 year old Neil explains “I think I have done everything possible in radio, hosting a variety of shows and outside broadcasts plus every form of promotional activity you can think of, there has never been a dull moment in my career”.

In 2010 MNA Broadcasting merged Telford FM and The Severn into one larger station servicing the whole of Shropshire.

Already presenting the popular breakfast show on The Severn, it was decided that Neil would continue to present The Neil Bentley Breakfast Show to include the newly added Telford audience. Neil adds “initial listenership figures were great, the move had not only kept the existing Telford audience but had seen it grow by roughly 20%”

The Severn, owned by MNA Broadcasting has now been sold to another media group who plan to re-launch the station later this year under a different format. Neil explains “it was unsure how the sale of the group would go but having put so much into the radio stations over the last 12 years I had already made the decision to move away from radio once the deal was complete to concentrate on other things. I will be sad to say goodbye to a loyal audience but I wish the new group all the best of luck for Shropshire”

Neil still hasn’t decided what his last song will be on Friday morning but he promises it will be something suitably daft “no time to be downbeat, I have some very exciting projects in the pipeline for the next 6 months which I am raring to get stuck into”.
