A tortoise along with a car and mobile phone were stolen during a burglary in north Shropshire yesterday.

The burglary happened at a home in Edward German Drive in Whitchurch while the occupant was away for just 20 minutes.

Entry was gained by forcing a door between 4.30pm and 5pm. A search was made of the premises and the keys taken for a black BMW 745i, registration E3SHE. The car, valued at around £10,000, was then stolen from the drive.

The eight-year-old tortoise was worth £1,000.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing to people who were in the area of Edward German Drive late yesterday afternoon to contact us if they saw anything suspicious.

"In particular, we want to hear from anyone who saw a black BMW being driven off. The number to contact is Whitchurch police station on the 101 non-emergency number".

Information can also be given to the anonymous independent Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
