New owner of The Buttermarket overwhelmed by support
The new owner of Shropshire’s largest nightclub has been overwhelmed by interest and support from both the public and club promoters since taking over The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury last week.

Venue owner, Martin Monahan added: ‘My team have been absolutely amazed at the huge level of interest shown by live music and club promoters looking to host gigs and club nights throughout the rest of the year at the venue.’
‘The support from the public in Shropshire, businesses and local authority have also been so positive. It’s clear that The Buttermarket is a venue still very dear to the public’s heart, and we’re excited that the refurbishment will make a siginificant impression and take the venue to an another level’
‘Work to repair the building outside is already underway and I believe the proposed new colour scheme for this grade 2 listed building will enhance The Buttermarket’s traditional historic features but also give it a new contemporary edge. I hope the Listed Buildings Conservation team at Shropshire Council agree and sanction it.’
Mr Monahan revealed that the total refurbishment is set to exceed £1 million. The Cellars, which is the first phase of the redevelopment, will open in April 2012.
Mr Monahan added, “I’ve just sent two of the team to ISE, Europe’s biggest technology show in Amsterdam this week to source the very latest technology to install in the venue. It’s all very exciting.
Bosses are also currently recruiting a number of front of house staff and managers, security team and a cleaning personnel. Once fully completed later this year Mr Monahan has announced that over 60 full and part-time jobs are set to be created.
