A man was trapped for around three quarters of an hour last night after a two car collision near Shrewsbury.

Driver trapped after two car collision near Shrewsbury

The collision happened on the B4380 between Atcham and Norton, about a mile to the east of the The Mytton and Mermaid pub at around 11.35pm.

One of the vehicles had front end damage, the second had considerable intrusion into the passenger side.

The driver of the second car, aged in his late teens or early 20s, was trapped for around 45 minutes.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance staff worked with firefighters to get the man out whilst he was treated. He had suffered internal injuries that required surgery. He was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board before being taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.”

The driver of the first car, an elderly man, had a minor injury to his hand but did not require hospital treatment.

An ambulance and a paramedic area support officer were sent to the scene.
