A man has been arrested after police seized thousands of pounds worth of drugs from a property in Telford.

Officers from the North Local Policing Team executed a search warrant at an address in Church Street in St Georges yesterday.

A total of 31 cannabis plants - all between five to six feet tall - were found in a hydroponics set up in the cellar of the property.

The street value of the find is estimated to be in the region of £30,000.

All of the plants have been secured and seized and will be destroyed by police.

A 40 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis. He was taken to a police station where he was interviewed and bailed, pending further enquiries.

Police Constable Vicky Mansell, who is the new dedicated officer for St Georges and Priorslee, said: "A search warrant was executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act as a result of intelligence received.

"A total of 31 cannabis plants, all quite mature, were discovered. When harvested the street value for the cannabis is around £30,000.

"The premises had a good hydroponics set up, with lighting, water and heating all in place.

"This was a big job for us and a really good result. A lot of officers were involved from other local policing teams, so it was a real team effort.

"Police will not tolerate drugs being cultivated, supplied or used. We will continue to pursue those involved in drugs and will prosecute individuals."
