Traffic light software failure causes delays for Shrewsbury motorists
Motorists in Shrewsbury are facing congestion in the town centre following a traffic light software failure.
The lights at the junction of Lower Claremont Bank and Bridge Street in Shrewsbury are currently not working properly since the failure yesterday.
The piece of software controls the lights depending on traffic flow, meaning they are not working as efficiently as usual.
Shropshire Council say engineers are manually controlling the lights during busy periods to try to keep traffic flowing as well as possible, but some disruption to traffic is likely.
Council contractors, are working to fix the lights as quickly as possible.
Councillor Simon Jones, Cabinet member for transport, said:
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this problem, and are hoping the lights will be repaired as soon as possible. In the meantime, engineers are doing their best to keep traffic moving by manually controlling the lights during the rush hour.”
