Police are investigating after a man was assaulted as he made his way home from a night out with his girlfriend.

Man assaulted whilst walking home in Wellington

The 19 year-old and his girlfriend were walking along Haybridge Road in Wellington when the assault occurred at around 11.20pm on Friday.

Two unknown men approached the couple from behind and started to assault the man by punching him several times to the face.

The victim, who suffered bruising to all of his face including a black eye and a cut lip, and his girlfriend managed to escape and sought help from fire-fighters at Wellington Fire Station.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "The couple had visited the Haygate pub but as they made their way home the male was assaulted.

"The pair managed to run away to the fire station and summon help. Fire-fighters administered first aid to the victim and police were called.

"A search was carried out of the surrounding area but the suspects had fled.

"Police are investigating the matter and are appealing to anyone with information that could help police with their enquiries in relation to the assault to come forward."

The suspects are described as Asian and aged in their late teens. One is described as slim build with a faint moustache. He was wearing a pale peaked baseball cap and a grey hooded top. The other is described as being of stockier build and was wearing a shiny plastic looking black Adidas top.

Anyone with information about the assault or the suspects should contact Telford Police on the non emergency number 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
