Police investigating a burglary at Wheathill near Bridgnorth today stopped a van and arrested the driver and two passengers.

Three arrested following burglary near Bridgnorth

Officers were responding to a 999 call reporting a house burglary in the village around 11.15am.

A passing motorist alerted a neighbour saying he saw two men running across a nearby field after the security alarm at the premises was activated.

Police responded in minutes and quickly located a white Ford Transit van which was stopped at Rock's Green, Ludlow, near the junction of the A49 and A4117.

The three occupants were arrested on suspicion of burglary and going equipped to steal. They were taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station for questioning.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Thanks to a call from a member of the public we were able to make an immediate response which resulted in a suspect van being stopped and three people arrested.

"We are appealing for witnesses, and in particular, want to hear from the passing motorist who initially raised the alarm by speaking to a neighbour. He was driving a silver Peugeot Boxer van and is thought to be from Bridgnorth making his way to Hereford and had a brown puppy with him on the front seat.

"We would urge him to contact Bridgnorth police station on the 101 non-emergency number as he may have other information which could help the investigation.

Two men aged 27 and 25 and a woman aged 25, all from the Walsall area, remain in custody.
