Police in Telford are appealing for information following a sexual assault on an 18-year-old in Wellington yesterday.

Information appeal launched following sexual assault in Wellington

At around 4.30pm, the victim was walking along King Street when she became aware of an unknown youth who appeared to be following her.

The youth is described as being ‘Asian' in appearance, as being aged between 12 and 14, around 5ft 1inch tall and as wearing a multi-coloured woolly hat with ear flaps and tassles.

As the victim walked along King Street the youth approached the victim and then made a grab for her chest. The victim moved away from the youth and asked him what he was doing.

The youth began to mimic the victim who quickly went on her way.

A police spokesman said:

"Although the victim tried to move away from the youth he kept following her. He continued to mimic the victim and tried to grab her chest several more times.

"Having walked past the junction with Constitution Hill the victim eventually arrived at Wellington railway station where the youth made one final attempt to grab her and then pulled her up against a white van in the car park.

"The victim managed to push the youth away from her and at this point her mother arrived in her car and picked her up. She immediately told her mother what had happened and she then shouted at the youth who quickly headed for one of the platforms at the station and boarded a train.

"Officers investigating this unusual incident are keen to hear from anyone who has information about it and they are also studying CCTV from the railway station to see whether this can help them identify the youth involved.”

Anyone who believes they may have information about the incident is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
