Shrewsbury Mayor goes under lock & key for charity
Porridge will be on the menu for the Mayor of Shrewsbury next week when he is placed into police custody to raise funds for charity.

Councillor Tony Durnell will be locked up in a cell on Monday in aid of the Police Community Fund and the Mayor’s Charity Fund.
How long the Mayor remains in custody depends on how much cash is pledged by members of the public. The more money raised, the longer Councillor Durnell will remain under lock and key up to a maximum of 24 hours.
Councillor Durnell will enter the custody suite at Shrewsbury Police station at 10am on Monday.
He said: “The lock-up date is set for February 27, although police operations and custody capacity could dictate that I am either ‘bailed’ to return at a later date to serve up my time, or another suitable date is agreed. The police won’t allow me to take my laptop or my mobile phone into the cells so I won’t be able to update my blog. You will get the full report once I am released.
“I am confident the people of Shrewsbury will keep me locked up for the full 24 hours and will pledge plenty of money to aid these two good causes. The more you pay, the longer I stay!”
