Shropshire dog makes it to final of This Morning competition
A Shropshire dog has made it to the final of a national television canine talent competition.

The Dog for the Dales competition is being run by ITV show This Morning, and offers the chance to one lucky pooch to star in an episode of popular soap opera Emmerdale.
Owner Julie says, “The role on Emmerdale would be just right for Buddy, he loves training and nothing fazes him – plus we are both Emmerdale fans. He’s a lovely dog and really enjoys going to new places and meeting new people. I’d love him to get this chance!”
Six hundred people uploaded videos of their dogs, and animal expert Sarah Fisher selected the dogs she thought would be the best fit. Sarah was looking for a dog who was trainable and had a great temperament.
Buddy, a nine year old Labrador, was one of just five dogs who made the longlist and were invited to spend a day at Emmerdale village to audition for the judges – Sarah Fisher, Dominic Brunt who plays Paddy Kirk in the show, and Emmerdale producer Stuart Blackburn. Buddy charmed them with his excitable nature and cute tricks, and was one of three dogs who made it to the final.
Viewers can vote online for their favourite dog until 11.45a.m. on Thursday 1st March, when all three finalists will be appearing on This Morning for the live announcement of which dog has received the most votes and will be featuring in the soap opera.
Buddy shares his Church Stretton home with two other dogs, three cats, ten Indian Runner ducks and a Guinea pig. He is an education dog for animal charity The Blue Cross and has visited Shropshire schools with his owner Julie Hill to help children consider their pets’ needs.
