The Brookside area of Telford is to get a boost after Telford & Wrekin Council confirmed funding of £1m has been granted by Lottery initiative; Big Local.

Brookside receives £1million boost

People in Brookside will get to decide on how this £1m is spent over 10 years on ideas that will improve their local area. The Big Local initiative is all about putting local people in the driving seat to make decisions on what should be done to improve their local community.

Councillor Jackie Loveridge, ward member for Brookside, said:

“The £1m funding secured through Big Local is a fantastic opportunity for local residents to work together to set up community led groups and projects. I very much look forward to finding out what ideas local people have and how they decide to achieve these.”

The £1m funding and support to the area will be delivered by Local Trust, a recently established, independent organisation set up by the Community Development Foundation and its consortium partners to run Big Local.

Mick Lloyd, Director for Telford & Wrekin CVS, said: I am delighted that our nomination of Brookside was chosen by Big Local.

“Local people will now be able to have even more of a say on what would improve the area and with this additional funding they will be able to turn future visions in to reality.”

Telford & Wrekin, a Co-operative Council is fully in support of the Big Local initiative. Telford & Wrekin Council will also be investing £6.2m in Brookside as part of its co-operative pilot.

Councillor Loveridge, added: “Working with local people, community groups and our partners we are together helping to bring about positive change for Brookside.”
