Shropshire boy asks for charity donations on his birthday
While most little boys ask for a new bike or action figure, one birthday boy shunned presents and asked for money instead - but not to buy himself the latest computer game or football kit, but to donate to a local life saving charity.

When William Saddler turned six he didn’t want presents from his family and friends and asked those who attended his birthday party to give a donation to Midlands Air Ambulance Charity instead.
Proud parents Claire and Neil Saddler from Wem, Shropshire, run a dairy farm, T. Saddler and Son and had explained to William the importance of the helicopters he often sees flying over their rural community.
Dad Neil Saddler said; “We explained the importance of the charity to him and he got very excited counting up all the coins and presenting £150 to grateful crew at RAF Cosford.”
The tractor mad youngster still had plenty of gifts from his proud parents and grandparents and loved visiting the air base and meeting the crew.
Mum Claire said that other parents thought it was a fantastic idea too; “Children often have so many presents and with so many parties it’s often difficult to decide what to buy. Parents were very generous knowing the money was going to such a worth while cause. We are very proud of him.”
