Another Shrewsbury nightclub to get the midas touch
A Shropshire businessman who took over one of Shrewsbury’s iconic entertainment venues last month has announced that he has also taken over another nightclub in the town this week.

Martin Monahan, who is currently refurbishing the 1800 capacity Buttermarket venue in Howard Street, which he purchased in January, has taken over the nearby bar and nightclub Eden, in Castle Foregate.
The Eden venue is currently being re-branded ‘Velvet’ by the new owner, who will re-launch the venue on Saturday 17th March for an exclusive party of around 300 guests with an event organised by the North Shropshire Hunt.
Mr Monahan also owns The Peach Tree Restaurant, Spirit Champagne Bar & Nightclub, and C:21 Bar & Nightclub – which was awarded the accolade of ‘Best Venue in Shropshire’ in last year’s Best Bar None Awards.
Martin Monahan commented, ‘When I initially put in the offer on The Buttermarket venue back in October last year, I thought that Eden would add a further dimension to the portfolio of venues that could be offered to our customers. As soon as the sale of the Buttermarket was completed, I immediately firmed up my discussions with the previous owners of Eden and got the ball rolling.
He added, ‘It has been increasingly evident that a number of our party organisers want, on occasions, to host an exclusive function solely for their guests, and without the general public being permitted entrance, and so the new Velvet Cocktail Bar and Nightclub is a perfect venue to meet these requirements for parties up to 350 guests.’
Mr Monahan has confirmed that in addition to exclusive private parties being hosted at the new Velvet venue, that he is also in discussions with a number of club promoters to bring some infamous clubbing brands on board to be staged at the nightclub.
The Velvet venue will also be open as an official feeder bar for particular events at The Buttermarket when it re-opens in April.
