Police have issued an e-fit picture of the man they are looking for in connection with a serious sexual assault on a young woman in Shrewsbury.

Police issue E-Fit of Shrewsbury Sexual Assault Suspect

The woman, in her twenties, was assaulted by a man a week ago as she was walking home.

He approached her near the junction of the Abbey Loop road and Holywell Street, opposite the offices of Terry Jones Solicitors between 2.10am and 2.40am on Saturday February 25.

She was left distressed but not seriously hurt.

The e-fit description has been released in the hope the offender will be identified.

Detective Inspector Mick Homden said: "We want people to contact the police if they think they recognise this man. It was a serious assault and our investigations are continuing.

"If you think you can help call Shrewsbury CID on the 101 non-emergency number."

The suspect is described as being in his thirties, of average build with black, spiky hair, large eyebrows and having a tanned complexion, possibly being of mixed race.

He was wearing a black top, brown belt with a silver clasp and black trousers.

Det Insp Homden said the police also wanted to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of the assault at the time. "We know that at least one group of people - three males and a female -stopped to help the distressed victim. There were also other people walking along the road having left bars and nightclubs, including two men and a woman, carrying four or five helium balloons.

"It's important they get in touch with us."
