Pupils' achievements celebrated at awards event
Moving from primary to secondary school can be a daunting step for youngsters, which is why one Telford school has launched a special evening to celebrate their achievements.

More than 200 people gathered to celebrate the progress of 11 and 12-year-olds at the Lord Silkin School, with primary school teachers from the south Telford area invited along to share in their former pupils' success.
The Year 7 Celebration Evening was held at the Stirchley Recreation Centre where 83 pupils received both subject and tutor awards.
Headteacher Trevor Goddard said: “Moving to secondary education is a big change for these pupils. But they have all done exceptionally well with the transition into the Lord Silkin School.
“Not only did we want to celebrate their achievements but we also wanted to welcome governors and teachers from our feeder primary schools to share in the youngsters' success.”
Lord Silkin School governor Angie Atkinson said: “It was amazing to be able to watch how the children have blossomed since being with you. They have grown in confidence and were bursting with pride.”
Teacher Amy Lucas, who organised the event, added: “We make the transition as easy as we can, but moving from an environment where you've been for five years, surrounded by teachers and friends, to a new place, with new teachers and new fellow pupils can be daunting.
“The evening was something I introduced to celebrate the great start the children have made since moving from their primary schools to us.”
