Police are urging residents in Whitchurch to be alert after burglars targeted three homes in one street.

The offences took place in Alkington Road on Thursday or Friday last week.

PC Joanne Keppel, the investigating officer has appealed for witnesses and is urging residents to remain vigilant.

She said: "Almost certainly these three crimes are linked, carried out by the same person or people. Contact Whitchurch police station on the 101 non-emergency number if you spotted anyone acting suspiciously in the area.

"Local people need to be aware of what has happened so they can be on their guard and take whatever steps possible to tighten up on their own security."

In one incident, a garage door was forced and various items stolen, including a container of diesel oil and a black box of fishing tackle. An unsuccessful attempt was also made to enter the house through an internal door in the garage. It happened between 6pm on Thursday (March 1) and 5am Friday.

Police are trying to trace the owners of a Magna Aztec mountain bike with a black frame with blue and red markings, which was left on the driveway.

The two other incidents involved a shed being broken into between 10.30am and 11am on Friday when nothing was stolen and an attempt to prise open the garage door at another property between 11pm Thursday and 8am Friday.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers independent charity by calling 0800 555 111.
