Detectives investigating a serious sex attack on a young woman in Shrewsbury are urging a potential witness to call them back.

Shrewsbury attack witness urged to call police

The plea comes after a man called police with information relating to the attack, which occurred near the junction of the Abbey Loop road and Holywell Street, opposite Terry Jones Solicitors in the early hours of Saturday 25 February.

The victim, a woman aged in her twenties, was assaulted as she was walking home from a night out. She was left distressed but not seriously hurt.

A number of appeals have been issued by police investigating the incident, including one asking members of the public who were in the vicinity at the time of the assault to come forward.

As a result of the latest appeal, one man has come forward, but police desperately need to speak to the individual again.

Detective Constable Alex Sullivan said: "A man called us last week and gave us some basic details. However, we desperately need him to call us back.

"He told us he had been drinking in The Crown pub and that he was with a group of people who were carrying helium balloons.

"If this is you, or you know who we are referring to, then I would urge you to call police.

"It is extremely important that this individual - or anyone else who has not yet come forward with information - gets in touch."

Shrewsbury CID can be contacted by calling 101.
