Big move begins ahead of new Wellington library opening
Wellington Library staff today begin the mammoth task of moving all stock and equipment to the brand new Library at the Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre.

The new Library at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre will open on Monday 2 April as part of a planned phased approach of moving into the new accommodation.
The new look, state of the art library will include thousands of volumes of new stock for all ages, tastes and abilities and 19 computers with free internet and Wi-Fi access for all library members. Self service is also available making borrowing and returning books even simpler.
Quiet study space is also available as well as community areas for a range of activities and interests – community history, special areas for children and young people and meeting rooms for hire.
Councillor Arnold England, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Well-being, said:
“This is going to be a huge task for all involved. Moving library stock is a very lengthy and difficult task as there is so much stock and it is so precious.
“However, this move is utterly necessary and will enhance all services in Wellington for library users. They will be able to take advantage of free wifi and the very best surroundings whilst reading, researching, studying, using a computer, taking part in storytelling sessions and much more.
Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Borough Towns Development, said: “The new centre really is fantastic and probably one of the most energy efficient public buildings in Telford and Wrekin, with a range of unique features.
“It is just another example of how we are continuing to develop our Borough Towns and represents both an exciting development for Wellington and also the council.”
