Shropshire Fights Back to hold public pensions meeting
The pressure group Shropshire Fights Back and the Shropshire and Telford Trades Council are jointly organizing a public meeting Thursday between 7.30 – 9.00pm at the Wakeman School in Shrewsbury.
The meeting will provide information on pensions changes coming in April, including any updates from Osborne’s Wednesday budget, and discussion of pensions actions on 28th March and the reasons for PCS’s continued fight and move for a national day of action in April.
The main speaker will be Professor Mike Haynes, from the Business School at the University of Wolverhampton, and there will be speakers from Trades Unions and the community.
Steve Bradfield, a lecturer at Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology, explains; “We felt there is a strong need at this time for a meeting to inform people and to encourage them to reflect on a vital issue for society. So we proposed the unions should work with Shropshire Fights Back to put on a public meeting.” Geoff Hardy, a partner in a small local business, is anxious “to make sure that everybody should take this opportunity to learn more about the issues and consider what they can contribute to fight for fairness for pensioners – after all, we all hope to get there ourselves one day.”
