Police arrest Oswestry arson suspect

The man is in custody being interviewed about fires at an empty house in Middleton Road on February 28, at the Zion Fitness Centre in Coney Green the following day and at the Cambrian visitor centre in Oswald Road on March 6.

The derelict property which was set alight in Middleton Road was well alight when firefighters arrived at the scene.

During the attack on Zion Fitness Centre a lighted newspaper was pushed through the letterbox. The incident was discovered when an alarm sounded in the premises and the fire service attended. Damage amounted to around £500 and was contained to the door, doormat and some smoke damage to the décor.

The fire at the Cambrian visitor centre destroyed a demountable shed.
