Newdale Primary School gets rambling for Sport Relief
Over 300 Newdale Primary School pupils are today taking on a local challenge by climbing the 407m high Wrekin. All in the name of Sport Relief.

The children are supporting the national campaign by ascending the Wrekin while carrying a piece of sports equipment. Some of the older children are also attempting to take up some of the more obscure pieces of equipment, including goal posts or even a canoe!
At the top, the children and staff from Newdale Primary School will pose for a bird’s eye photograph taken from a RAF helicopter that will be flying overhead. Telford & Wrekin Council’s catering services will also be providing school dinners at the top.
Children will be collecting sponsorship from family and friends and Newdale Primary School will be selling photographs taken by the RAF photographer to raise even more funds for Sport Relief.
Miss Cook, Head teacher at Newdale Primary School, said: “Our children appreciate that not everyone is as lucky as they are. Helping to raise money for a worthy cause is going to help other children who are less fortunate than our pupils..
“The children and staff are very excited about getting out of school to take part in a PE lesson that they will all remember for years to come. Activities will also be taking place at school throughout the day so that everyone has a chance to take part.
“We will be wearing the Sport Relief colours of red and white so I am sure local people will be able to spot us and show their support.”
All the money the children will raise through taking part in the walk will help transform lives locally and throughout the world’s poorest countries.
Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many of our schools and community groups backing Sport Relief. Not only this, but it is great that by doing so children and their families are getting active at the same time.”
