Telford and Wrekin Community First Responders are to take a spinal-boarded ‘patient’ up the Wrekin today to raise funds.

Community First Responders take part in Wrekin challenge

Their ‘Wrekin Challenge’ will take place on Sunday March 25th, when they will fully immobilise one of their own volunteers and carry them to the summit 1,350ft above the Shropshire plains.

The climb will begin at midday at the base car park. Helping them will be volunteers from West Midlands 4x4 who will bring six vehicles, two of which will follow the walkers.

Co-ordinator Steve Brown said: “The objective is to raise sponsorship to purchase equipment for our scheme now that our group has grown to 26 responders. We have already raised £2,500 and look forward to raising even more money on the day in the collecting buckets we will be carrying with us.

“Equipment such as medical kits, defibrillators and uniforms and to keep our scheme vehicle running 24x7 are all the items that we plan to spend the sponsorship money on.”

To sponsor them, call Telford & Wrekin CFR scheme co-ordinator Steve Brown on 07974 116728

Community First Responders are everyday members of the public trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service in lifesaving techniques. They may be called upon by the ambulance service’s control room to attend medical emergencies in their area while an ambulance resource is en-route.

If you would like to become a Community First Responder, call Cliff Medlicott (West Midlands Ambulance Service Community Response Manager for Shropshire) on 07887 050877 or West Midlands Ambulance Service’s CFR Admin office on 01743 273677 or CFRAdmin@wmas.nhs.uk
