Jessie J’s Shrewsbury summer concert is set to be a sell out after more than 8,000 tickets have been sold since Monday morning.

The chart-topping singer – a judge on BBC1 talent show The Voice – is expected to play to a sell-out crowd of 10,000 at the Quarry, which is managed by the Shrewsbury Town Council, on July 6.

Mike Cox, Outdoor Recreation & Asset Manager for the council said:

“We are thrilled when the promoters of the summer concert have secured an artist of Jessie J’s calibre for the summer concert in the Quarry. We have worked hard to respond to requests for an act that would appeal to a younger generation and we are pleased we have been able to do so without a significant increase in ticket prices. We are delighted with ticket sales so far, the concert looks set to sell out by the weekend.”

Jessie J came to prominence with her debut single ‘Do It Like a Dude,’ which peaked at number two in the UK singles chart.

Her follow-up single ‘Price Tag’ reached number one in the UK, as well as in France, Ireland and New Zealand.

The singer won the 2011 Critics’ Choice BRIT Award and the BBC’s Sound of 2011.

Tickets for the show will be £32.50 for adults and £20 for children and can be booked online at www.theatresevern.co.uk or by calling the Theatre Severn box office on (01743) 281281.
