Police in Telford are investigating following a series of burglaries in Newport between 6.30pm on Friday and 12.30am on Saturday.

Homes targeted during series of burglaries in Newport

Thieves broke into four addresses in the town by forcing open doors or smashing windows at the rear of the properties.

The four properties targeted were on Chester Road, Brookside Avenue, Meadow Road and Vineyard Drive.

A police spokesman said: "The four properties were targeted in the same 6 hour period so, although we are keeping an open mind, we believe it is extremely likely the same offender or offenders is responsible for all the break-ins.

"At each address the thieves took items such as jewellery, electrical goods and cash, and the total value of the goods that were stolen is thought to be several thousand pounds at least.

"Incidents like this are rare in Newport and therefore we are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on Friday night in and around the town.

"The thieves must have been using a vehicle of some sort to carry out these burglaries and if anyone saw a vehicle they did not recognise in an unusual place we would be keen to hear about it.

"Anyone who believes they may have information about these burglaries is asked to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111."
