Police in Telford are appealing for information following a robbery at a fish and chip shop on Station Road in Ketley last night.

Baton carrying men steal cash from Telford chip shop

Two men with their faces covered entered Ketley Cod at around 10pm carrying metal batons. One of the men moved behind the counter and ordered a female member of staff to open the till and hand over the money.

The staff member said that she couldn't just open the till and the man then grabbed it off the counter, pulled it from the wall and tried to open it. As he did this he knocked a number of other things - including tubs containing hot kebab meat - onto the floor.

A police spokesman said:

"Initially the man failed to open the till and he then took it into the kitchen area and began to smash it on the floor.

"Eventually the man managed to force the drawer of the till open and he then took around £200 from inside before fleeing the scene with his accomplice.

"Two customers who were just arriving at the shop did try to apprehend the men as they were escaping but they were unable to stop them getting away.

"Having left the shop the two offenders made off in the direction of Overdale.

"At the present time only brief descriptions are available of the men that carried out this robbery. Both the men are described as being white, while one of them is also described as wearing a grey fleece and a grey balaclava.

Officers investigating the robbery are looking for possible CCTV opportunities in relation to the robbery while forensic officers are visiting the scene looking for evidence that may help identify the offenders.

Police officers are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Ketley area last night and anyone who believes they may have information about this robbery is asked to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000. Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
