Lambs die after cover is removed from well on Shropshire farm

A Shropshire farmer has lost almost 50 lambs after they fell down an open well.

The lambs died after the cover of a well was removed on land at Broomcroft Farm, Kenley, near Much Wenlock.

Farmer, Clive Taylor said discovering the dead lambs were one of the most horrific things he had witnessed.

It’s thought the lambs had followed each over into the well after the heavy stone cover, about one metre square and four inches thick, had been deliberately moved.

Speaking to BBC Radio Shropshire Mr Taylor said: "I was walking through the field and a ewe came over to me. You could tell her lamb was missing and she was really serious about it.

"I looked around the field and thought 'where have all my lambs gone?' There should have been 150 in the field."

He said the lambs, already dead, were piled on top of each other.
