Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to an assault in Bridgnorth's High Street where a man was punched and kicked.

Man injured during assault on Bridgnorth High Street

The incident happened at around 1am on Sunday as two men were walking home from the Crown pub.

As they passed the town hall, they were assaulted by a group of three men. One of the victims, aged 29, was punched in the face, knocked to the ground and kicked by one of the group.

He suffered a black eye, cuts and bruising but did not require hospital treatment.

Police Constable Ian Cole, the investigating officer, said: "This was an unprovoked assault and I am appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the offenders, to come forward.

"Anyone who can help the investigation should contact me at Bridgnorth police station by dialling the 101 non-emergency number. Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111."

The main assailant is described as white, in his early twenties, about 5ft 9ins tall, of slim to medium build and was wearing a white t-shirt. The other two were also white and of a similar age.
