Strong case made for Telford HMRC staff and offices
A Telford and Wrekin delegation yesterday made a strong case for retaining Telford as a key location for support staff working for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) service.

The delegation led by council leader Kuldip Sahota met with David Gauke MP, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, to discuss and understand the Government’s current thinking regarding future use of offices in the borough.
The HMRC has already said that Telford is one of 16 key locations where it will maintain a presence until at least 2020, but not necessarily in all of the offices currently occupied although final decisions have yet to be made.
Cllr Kuldip Sahota said: "Telford is rightly recognised by the Government as a centre of excellence for HMRC staff and the Minister was generous with his praise for the workforce here in Telford.
“I recognise the Government has to make savings, but both David Wright and I made a strong case for Telford.
“We are optimistic that Mr Gauke understands the case for retaining Telford as one of the key places outside London to retain support staff and vital services."
By 2015, HMRC will be operating with 10,000 fewer full time equivalent posts nationwide than it had in April 2011 as it achieves substantial savings efficiencies.
