£300,000 road improvements proposed for busy Shrewsbury road
Proposals to improve a busy Shrewsbury road at a cost of £300,000 are to go on display next week.

A new road surface, zebra crossings outside Shirehall and Shrewsbury College, wider pavements and shared use facilities for pedestrians and cyclists is proposed for London Road between Shrewsbury College and the Column roundabout.
Shropshire Council is inviting people who live or work in Shrewsbury, and students at Shrewsbury College, to give their views on the proposals when they go on display at a public exhibition in Shirehall on Tuesday 24 April 2012 between 12.30pm to 6.30pm were council staff will be on hand to discuss the proposals.
The plans will then be available to view at Shirehall until 25 May 2012. They are also be available, along with a feedback form, on the Cycle Shrewsbury website.
Students at Shrewsbury College are also being asked for their feedback.
Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for transport, said:
“London Road is a key access route for Shrewsbury College, Prestfelde School, Shirehall and Shrewsbury Business Park, and for people travelling into or out of Shrewsbury.
“The London Road enhancement scheme has been developed in response to the deterioration of the road surface, and concerns about the lack of safe crossing points and facilities for walking and cycling. I hope people will take a look at the proposals and let us know what they think.”
If the scheme is supported, the zebra crossing and maintenance work near the college could be carried out this summer. Other measures near the Column roundabout could be implemented in 2013.
Shropshire Council says the work is expected to cost around £300,000 for the whole scheme with the majority of work funded from external grants, including the £4.99m awarded to Shropshire Council last year from the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
