More rain for Shropshire as April ends stormy
Met Office forecasters are expecting a mixture of sunshine and showers to continue as we head into the weekend, with heavy rain and strong to gale force winds across much of the UK on Sunday.
Dan Suri, Deputy Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said: "We are expecting pretty miserable conditions across much of the UK on Sunday. The heavy rain may lead to localised flooding while the strong gusty winds will make travelling conditions difficult."
The Environment Agency is advising people to be alert for disruption from possible localised flooding.
In Shropshire flood alerts are currently in force on:
- Rivers Tern, Perry, Roden, Strine and Meese and their tributaries
- Severn Vyrnwy Confluence
- River Teme, River Onny and River Corve & their tributaries upstream of Ludlow
In preparation for the very wet weather, Environment Agency officers are out monitoring river levels, checking defences, and removing any blockages that may increase the risk of flooding.
Motorists are also being urged to drive carefully due to localised flooding and standing water across the county.
Drivers are being asked to slow down, allow extra space for braking and not to drive through flooding unless you are sure that your vehicle will make it through.
