A man has been taken to hospital after the car he was in collided with a lorry in Shropshire.

A5 crash at Shotatton crossroads causes delays

The collision involving a lorry and car occurred around 7.40am this morning. West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the A5 Shotatton Crossroads, shortly after 7.40am today.

A paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew and the Derbyshire Leicestershire Rutland Air Ambulance attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The driver of the car, a man in his fifties, had a slight head injury. He was checked over at the scene and his injury didn’t require a flight to hospital. He was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was taken by land ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment and treatment. There was no injury to the lorry driver.”

The A5 was closed in both directions, motorists using local roads also faced delays as drivers sought alternative routes.
