Police officers in Telford are investigating a sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl in Madeley.

Teenager sexually assaulted in Madeley

The incident occurred near the Abraham Darby School on Ironbridge Road yesterday evening.

Sometime between 6pm and 7pm, as the 14-year-old walked home from the shops she was approached by an unknown man. The man started asking her questions and then made several comments of a sexual nature to her.

The victim became a little concerned and the man then grabbed hold of her hand and tried to kiss. The victim immediately pulled her hand away from the man, ran straight home and then reported the incident to the police.

A spokesman for police in Telford said:

"The victim has been left very shaken by this incident but she has been able to give us a description of the man that approached her.

"The man police want to identify is described as being white but as quite tanned, around 5ft 10inches tall and as being aged in his early 20s. His is also described as wearing a dark coloured suit, a white shirt, a pink tie and a grey hat with a bobble on the top.

"Police are keen to speak to anyone who believes they may know who this man is and anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the police on 101 or 0300 333 3000.

"Alternatively, Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather pass on information without getting directly involved yourself."
