An investigation is underway after two people were robbed during separate incidents in Telford last night.

Telford street robberies investigated

The first incident took place at around 11.20pm as a man was walking along Tan Bank in Wellington alone.

As he walked from Church Street through Wellington town centre, behind The Raven public house, he heard shouting from behind.

He turned around and saw a group of up to eight men running towards him. Members of the group pushed him to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked him. They stole £30 from the victim and fled.

The 22 year-old victim suffered cuts and bruises to his face and body and attended the Princess Royal Hospital.

In a separate incident, a man was robbed of his mobile phone as he stood waiting outside the church in Rock Road in Overdale for a friend at around 11.50pm.

As the 17 year-old stood waiting for his friend he was approached by two men on bicycles from the direction of The Rock. One of the cyclists got off his bike and grabbed the victim and began punching him. He then snatched the victim's mobile phone - a Blackberry curve - and the two men made off in the direction they had originally come from.

The victim, who suffered no injuries, reported the matter to police.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "Police will thoroughly investigate both of these incidents. We are currently carrying out a number of enquiries, including looking at CCTV.

"If you were in either of the areas at the time and have any information that could help us with our enquiries then please come forward and speak to us."

Anyone with information should contact Telford Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
