Radiotherapy clinics temporarily move due to refurbishment
Radiotherapy outpatient clinics at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust will today take up temporary residence in the top floor of the new Lingen Davies Cancer Centre.
The clinics are being moved while the current radiotherapy department is refurbished as part of phase two of the Cancer and Haematology Centre project.
The development is expected to be completed in August, when radiotherapy will return to their new-look base – making room for haematology services to move into the £5 million centre.
“We are working hard to make sure that there is no disruption to patients while the work continues on the cancer centre,” said Oncology Centre Manager Sarah Faulkner. “The work on phase two is already well under way and this is just the latest step.
“The radiotherapy outpatient clinics will be moving from Saturday and they will go into the first floor of the new cancer centre. It is a fantastic building offering plenty of space for patients to receive treatment in comfort and with dignity. I am sure they will like the new building and will also be impressed by the refurbished radiotherapy department when that is completed in the summer.”
Phase one of the project was completed over Easter and saw the Chemotherapy Day Centre move into the ground floor of the new building, proving a big hit with patients and staff alike.
Lingen Davies are currently in the midst of a £386,000 campaign to provide new furniture for the new centre when it is fully completed. The charity raised £3.2 million towards the total build cost for the project.
