Council appoints contractor for Telford Ice Rink refurbishment
Telford & Wrekin Council has announced the appointment of Morgan Sindall as the principal contractor for the extensive refurbishment of the town centre ice rink.

The company will carry out major internal and external improvements and extension of the existing rink as part of the £250m Southwater development.
The scheme will include the construction of new soft play facilities, and refurbishment of the existing bar area to provide space for an independent bar or restaurant.
It will also include the development of a new restaurant or bar, to the front of Mecca Bingo and Ten Pin Bowling, facing onto the new Main Street and the building of an energy centre to deliver sustainable energy to the Southwater developments.
Work will start on site towards the end of the month to allow the Ice Rink to open in October, with the remainder of the development being expected to open by the end of the year.
The existing rink will be closed during the construction works but a temporary facility will be set up in Southwater Square to ensure people can keep skating during the summer months.
Councillor Arnold England, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for Leisure and Wellbeing, said: “This work will result in Telford having a fantastic state of the art ice rink that will be a facility for everyone to be really proud of.
“There is no doubt the rink currently needs some investment and I am delighted that we are now at a point where we are able to appoint Morgan Sindall as a contractor to do the work.”
Julian Price, area manager for Morgan Sindall, said: “We are very pleased to have been appointed principal contractor for this project.
“We are looking forward to bringing our expertise in constructing leisure facilities to bear on this development, which will provide people in Telford with a first class facility and play a central role in invigorating the town centre.”
Planning permission for the refurbishment of the Ice Rink was approved by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Plans Board in March.
