A 23-year-old man was left with a broken jaw after being attacked and kicked in Shrewsbury town centre.

Argument leads to man receiving broken jaw in Shrewsbury

The incident took place at around 3.30am yesterday in Butcher Row, off Pride Hill.

He became involved in a heated argument with a man who ran at him, kicked him to the ground and continued to kick him.

Police Constable Leanne Rhoden, the investigating officer, appealed for witnesses to come forward.

She said: "The incident attracted the attention of a number of passing men who went to the aid of the victim, including some door staff. These are among the people I am appealing to get in touch."

After being separated, the victim walked further into Butcher Row, helped by an unknown man. The assailant and a friend, who stood watching the assault, walked onto Pride Hill with the door staff and other members of the public.

About five minutes later, the assailant returned to the injured man while sat near St Alkmunds Church and kicked him several times in the head.

PC Rhoden added: "This was a vicious attack which left the victim with a broken jaw. I urge anyone who can assist the police inquiry to contact Shrewsbury police station on the 101 number."

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111, for which a reward may be paid.
