Driver fails to stop after colliding with schoolgirl in Whitchurch

A 12 year old girl suffered minor injuries after she was involved in a collision with a car which failed to stop this morning.

Driver fails to stop after colliding with schoolgirl in Whitchurch

The girl was using the pelican crossing at around 8.40am on Sedgford, near the junction with Queensway in Whitchurch, when a vehicle collided with her.

The vehicle which failed to stop continued travelling away from Whitchurch town centre towards Prees on Heath Road.

PC Rob Seager from Shrewsbury police station said: "Fortunately, the girl was not badly hurt in the collision, but this could have been a lot worse.

"The incident happened so quickly that we do not have any description of the vehicle involved, but we are certain that it is a car as opposed to a van or anything larger.

"This area of Whitchurch would have been very busy at the time with pupils and parents on their way to the nearby Sir John Talbot's Technology College. I would ask anyone who saw what happened to call us as soon as possible.

"I would also urge the driver of the vehicle concerned to get in touch with us as we believe they would have known that they had made contact with the girl on the crossing."

Anyone with information about this incident can call PC Seager on 0300 333 3000, quoting 94S 280512 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
